| What\’s
a FAQ?
A frequently asked question. Essentially, a question
that is asked enough times that it’s worth putting in a generic
section, rather than having to ask it every time. It could also be a
good question, that we thought others might ask and we could simply
answer here.
|
How do
I submit a FAQ?
You don’t
really. You just ask a question. If we hear it from enough people, it\’s
probably a frequently asked question and I will add it to here. |
What if
it\’s a stupid question?
If you want to know
the answer, doesn\’t that make it a valid question? And if you
want to know, chances are there are others who want to know too, but
thought they would look stupid asking. Better to know, surely? The only
stupid question is the one that doesn't get asked. |
How big
are your 15 mm figures?
What a stupid question.
15 mm of course. No, seriously, they are about 15 mm from the sole of
foot to the level of their eye, or about 16 mm overall. Of course, some
figures may be slightly bigger or smaller than that, but it\’s
a reasonable generic guide. |
What are
your figures made from?
Most of our figures
are metal, a composite alloy known as white metal. It does contain some
lead (mainly for the pliability and flow when casting) but it\’s
only dangerous if you eat large quantities over a long period - in which
case you probably need a psychiatric doctor, and an enema... |
No, I
meant the masters
Oh, sorry, I misunderstood.
It depends. Many of our masters are made from a combination of plastic
sheet and brass. We also use Milliput (very useful for adding your own
personalisations, such as tarpaulins, boxes, etc) and ‘Green Stuff’.
This is a much more rubbery type of epoxy clay that gives good natural
shapes. |
Do you
have blood tests?
Staff working with
the molten material are subject to regular blood tests to check the
level of lead in the bloodstream. If they are ok working within the
liquid vapours of the raw material, I\’m sure you\’ll be
just fine. That said, be sensible, don\’t eat the metal (doughnuts
are much better) and wash your hands after handling them in their bare
metal state. |
Why don\’t
you make a (insert figure/product)?
Probably one of
two reasons. Firstly, we haven’t got round to it. We have a ‘desirable
addition list’ of over 400 items that constantly changes, so we
need to decide some form of priority. Secondly, you\’re probably
the only person that has asked us for it, so that makes it commercially
non-viable - selling you one will not recover the costs of the master
and moulding process. |
But I
really want one
Then write to us
and tell us. That way when 20 of you write and tell us, that\’s
20 we can sell, which starts to become viable. |
No, you
don\’t understand, I REALLY want one. How much does it cost to
make one?
It varies considerably,
depending on the amount of work involved. A vehicle master can be £30
to £100, and another £20-£30 to do the moulding. That
doesn’t include labour costs (our workers like to be paid). Infantry
figures can be £20 to £30 each, plus moulding. Then you
have the actual cost of casting the item, labour, materials, overheads
such as rent, rates, electric... As you can see, that means we need
to sell an awful lot of figures to recover our costs. |
But you
sell lots of things - you must be rich?
You know how to
make a million pounds in a wargame company? Well, you start with 2 million
pounds... Seriously, the profit margins are not high and we invest everything
back into adding more products. We have full-time jobs and work on this
in our spare time (I\’m writing this on a Sunday), evenings and
weekends. It\’s a lot of work for little reward, and yes, it is
frustrating when you get complaints about not spending enough time on
it, not enough pictures, etc, etc. We do run it as a serious business,
but it would probably run smoother if we all did it full time. Of course
to do that, and pay my mortgage, we\’d have to put the prices
up :-) |
Can I
use your figures with my (insert ruleset name) rules?
Yes, of course.
Our figures are all produced to the same high standards and quality.
They are suitable for use with ANY games system that you would normally
use 15mm figures for, such as Crossfire, Rapid Fire, Flames of War,
PBI, Blitzkrieg Commander, etc to name just a few of the more popular
ones. You can even use them for gaming 20mm or 1:300 scale rulesets
if you wish. We often play Fistful of Tows (originally written for 1:300
scale) with our own 1:100 modern range - and very impressive it looks
too to have 12 Abrams rolling down a large table... |
Are your
figures compatible with other manufacturers?
Yes, of course.
If they are not, it is because the other manufacturer are building them
to the wrong size! Seriously, though, we find that our figures are generally
compatible with the majority of 15mm manufacturers currently on the
market. |
Where
have your Platoon Pack deals gone?
Ah, a technical
hitch. I haven't figured out a way to get the Platoon Pack discount
working throughout this new site. Well, that's not quite true - I do
have a way, but it means about 2 weeks rewriting of a lot of the code,
which all costs money. |
I want
9 trucks, but your Platoon Pack deals only list 3, 4 or 5?
Simply buy 3x 3
Vehicle Platoon Packs, or a 4 and a 5. You get 15% off everything. The
Platoon Pack deals are designed for any model priced between £3.50
and £6.00. |
I don't
understand how to work your website.
