The miniscule AMR33 was armed with a 7.5 mm Reibel machine gun. Dating from 1933, the type had already been superceded by the AMR35 by the time war broke out.
In the Battle of France the type fared very badly. It was poorly armed, poorly armoured and very unreliable – its one good point, its speed, wore out the suspension units! However it was faster than any German tank of the time.
The Germans used captured AMR33s, redesignated as the Panzerspahwagen VM 701 (f).
