With 386 examples in Dutch service by May 1940, the Böhler 47mm was a capable, well-regarded anti-tank gun for its size. It proved a genuine shock to the German 9th Panzer Division during the invasion of the Netherlands, reportedly accounting for around a third of that division’s tank losses in the Rotterdam and Dordrecht fighting – a rare bright spot in a five-day campaign otherwise overwhelmed by German airborne and armoured forces.
