Developed in direct response to the shock of encountering the Soviet T-34, the PaK 40 became Germany’s standard anti-tank gun for the rest of the war, genuinely capable of dealing with almost any Allied tank it met. Over 20,000 were built, and the same gun was also fitted to numerous tank destroyer conversions, from the Marder series to the Jagdpanzer IV.
