Developed during the First World War, the 155mm GPF (Grande Puissance Filloux) was powerful and accurate enough that the United States adopted it in large numbers as their own standard heavy gun. Still in French service in 1940, it provided the long-range, heavy-hitting fire support that lighter divisional guns couldn’t match.
