As with the Panzer IV, the StuG III was upgunned with a longer 75mm gun in response to the T-34, turning what had been purely an infantry support vehicle into one of Germany’s most effective and numerous tank destroyers – eventually credited with more tank kills than any other single German armoured vehicle type.
